KCKCC holds Hairspray auditions

Kansas City Kansas Community College's Department of Theatre will be holding auditions for their fall productions of Dracula and Hairspray on August 27, 2012. Auditions will be held in the Performing Arts Center on the college campus at 7250 state Avenue in Kansas City, KS from 2:30-6:30 p.m.

Please prepare a contemporary, one-minute, memorized monologue. Those auditioning for Hairspray should prepare 16 bars of music from
two songs - one ballad, one upbeat. Please bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.

The Plays:

Dracula by Steven Dietz (based upon the novel by Bram Stoker)
6 men; 4 women

THE STORY: This new adaptation restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker's classic novel to the stage. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they try to piece together the clues of his appearances—in a valiant attempt to save themselves from a hideous fate. Rich with both humor and horror, this play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker's famous vampire.

Hairspray, the musical, is based on the 1988 John Waters' film of the same name.

HAIRSPRAY, winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs.

It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!
